How do I get my home services business to show up on ChatGPT and AI search?

In short

You get your home services business into AI answers by making it easy to read and easy to verify. That means clear service and service-area pages, answers written directly under question-form headings, consistent name, address and phone everywhere, structured data in the raw HTML, and crawler access for AI user agents in robots.txt.

What does it mean to show up on AI search?

AI search is any place an assistant answers a question instead of listing links: ChatGPT, Google AI Mode, Google AI Overviews, Gemini and Perplexity. Showing up means the assistant names your business, describes it accurately, and where the surface supports it, links to your site.

That is a different job from ranking. An assistant reads pages, decides which ones state an answer plainly, and repeats what it can verify. A page can rank well and still be skipped because the answer is buried under three paragraphs of history.

Why doesn't my business get named right now?

Usually one of four reasons. The site does not state your services and service area in plain text. The information about your business disagrees between your site, your Google Business Profile and directories. The page content is rendered by JavaScript so a crawler sees an empty shell. Or robots.txt blocks the AI user agents outright.

Each of those is fixable, and none of them require tricks. They require the site to say clearly what you do, where, and for whom.

What should I fix first?

Start with your Google Business Profile: correct categories, complete services, accurate service area, real hours and photos, and a steady flow of reviews. It is the record most engines cross-check against.

Then fix the site: one page per service, one page per market you actually serve, a question-form heading on each section with the answer immediately beneath it, and your name, address and phone matching the profile exactly.

Then add the machine-readable layer: LocalBusiness and Service schema in the raw HTML, an FAQPage schema on every FAQ, and an allow rule for GPTBot, OAI-SearchBot, ChatGPT-User, ClaudeBot, PerplexityBot and Google-Extended.

How do I know if it is working?

Write down a fixed set of prompts a customer would actually type, run them across each engine on a set date, and record whether you were named. Repeat monthly. Frequency across repeated runs is a more honest measure than any single result, because AI answers vary between runs.

Frequently asked

Can I pay to appear in ChatGPT answers?

Not for the organic answer. Assistants cite sources they can read and verify. Anyone selling guaranteed placement in an AI answer is selling something they cannot control.

How long does it take?

Profile and site fixes can be reflected within weeks as engines recrawl, but consistent citation usually builds over a few months of publishing and cleanup.

Does blogging help?

Only if each post answers a real question a customer asks, in a format an assistant can quote. Volume for its own sake does not help.
