What is a Google AI Overview?
An AI Overview is the generated summary Google places above the classic results for many queries. It pulls from pages Google already indexes and cites a handful of them. Being in the index is the entry ticket, not the prize.
Why does Google skip my page?
The most common cause is format. Overviews quote pages that answer a specific question in a self-contained passage. If your services page opens with a brand story and never states what you do in one sentence, there is nothing to lift.
The second cause is trust. If your name, address and phone differ between your site, your profile and directories, the safest thing for Google to do is cite someone else.
The third is rendering. If the text only appears after JavaScript runs, treat it as invisible.
The fourth is experience. Slow pages with shifting layouts are weaker candidates and weaker landing pages when someone does click.
What does a quotable page look like?
A question as the heading. A 40 to 70 word answer directly beneath it that stands alone if it is copied out of context. Specifics: services, service area, hours, price structure, process. Then the supporting detail for humans who keep reading.
Add FAQPage and LocalBusiness schema so the same facts exist in machine-readable form, and keep a visible last updated date tied to your deploy.
How do I check my own pages?
View source and search for your headline text. If it is not there, the server is not sending it. Run the URL through the Rich Results Test to confirm the schema parses. Then run a throttled mobile Lighthouse check and look at Largest Contentful Paint and Cumulative Layout Shift.
